For those of you who may not have heard, in an effort to balance the budget, Georgia’s Secretary of State, Brian Kemp, announced that the State Archives would be closed to the public starting November 1, 2012. He has since announced that it would “remain open,” but in what capacity is still unclear.
Like many in the profession, we are deeply saddened by this announcement. This is why we are encouraging the following:
- Sign the petition
- Write to the appropriate officials in Georgia (a helpful list can be accessed through this page)
- Like the Facebook page for news
- Follow the other action steps laid out by the Friends of Georgia’s Archives
We are sending our letter today, expressing our disappointment and concern, to Governor Nathan Deal, Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle, and Secretary of State Brian Kemp. We hope you do the same.
